in Japan....

We have been mostly very happy with medical care we've received here in Japan...
Sue recently went to our local doctor because she has again had problems with an ingrown toenail.  It was causing a great deal of pain, so she gave in and went.  

The doctor looked at it and said, "Ahhh... obviously medicine isn't going to help this."  I kind of knew that already.
Dr:   When are you going to be going back next to the United States?
me:  November or December.
Dr.:  And you went to see a foot doctor specialist there before, right?
me:  Yes, that's right.  About 2 years ago.
Dr.:  Oh good, good.  So please wait and go to see him again when you go back next.
me:  But Doctor, I'm kind of in a lot of pain.
Dr.:  Oh, if the pain gets too bad come back and see me.  I'll give you some pain medication.

End of visit.

What made us

cry recently

in Japan...

We were driving recently in August on a Monday morning to Starbucks for our morning coffee date.  Sue was reading the English newspaper that we receive, and read the following headline to Eric:  "

Mom, 2 daughters killed by train in 'suicide pact."

A 42 year old woman and her two daughters, aged 12 and 13 huddled together at midnight last weekend on a train track.  The driver could not stop fast enough, and all 3 were killed.  It happened in Sendai.

It could have been our neighbors.  It could have been girls who we teach in the elementary school.  We both just started crying in the car.  We are SO thankful that God has continued to call us here.  But we want to reach MORE people.  People like this need to know the hope of Jesus....
